On May 26, 1780, one of the first victories for the Patriots after the fall of Charleston took place 1 ½ miles east on Little River. A body of Tories gathering at a Baptist meeting house in Mobley's settlement were attacked and dispersed by a band of Whigs under Col. Wm. Bratton, Maj. Richard Winn, and Capt. John McClure.
