Mount Holly Cemetery

Front: In 1893, T.A. Dillon, J.H. David, D. McLaurin, S.S. Rozier, and F.B. David, trustees for the Mount Holly Cemetery Association, purchased around 7 acres of land at this site. On it they established Mount Holly Cemetery, one of the first public burial grounds serving the town of Dillon. Most graves date from the 1900s to 1950s, with some older and more recent burials. Reverse: Mount Holly Cemetery has more than 200 known graves, which include many early town and county leaders and other residents. In 1959, a local newspaper wrote that the cemetery’s association with local history was of “priceless worth.” Among those interred is James W. Dillon, namesake and “Father of Dillon County,” whose support made possible the county’s 1910 creation.
