Skirmish at Tidyman's Plantation

Front: On Feb. 25, 1782 Patriot Gen. Francis Marion resumed his command at nearby Tidyman’s Plantation (Cedar Hill) after serving in the Jacksonboro Assembly. He was absent from his men’s Feb. 24 defeat at Wambaw Bridge 1 mi. S, after which Col. Benjamin Thompson’s British and Loyalist troops regrouped below Wambaw Creek. Reverse: On Feb. 25 Thompson circled his men around to engage Marion from the north. The two forces met near the Tidyman slave dwellings. Thompson’s troops charged and dispersed Marion’s lines, which broke down in confusion and suffered a number of casualties. The victory provided the British with horses, cattle, and other supplies.
