Wright & Pier Co. Logging Railroad
Built in 1864 by Wright & Pier Co., the railroad used a steam locomotive that revolutionized the logging industry in Pa. and nationwide. Understanding that steam power would be more efficient for hauling logs to waterways than wooden skids or horses, Wright with engineer Alfred Truman and millwright Brush Baxter created the locomotive from a boiler and small steam engine. The line ran about four miles from Callen Run to Clarion River.
