John G. Johnson, esq. (1842-1917)

Prominent corporate lawyer who defended laissez-faire capitalism on behalf of clients, such as DuPont, Pennsylvania Railroad, and industrialists Andrew Carnegie and J.P. Morgan, argued 168 cases before the U.S. Supreme Court, many involving antitrust legislation. An art enthusiast, his nearly 1,300 paintings formed the basis of the art collection at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. His law office was here on Walnut Street.
