Wiley Hardeman Post, born on November 22, 1898, in Texas, moved to Oklahoma at an early age and grew up on a farm near Maysville. Post and navigator Harold Gatty flew around the world in eight days in 1931. In 1933 Post became the first person to fly solo around the world. He designed a special pressure suit to experiment with high-altitude flying and is credited with discovering the jet stream. Post and fellow Oklahoman Will Rogers died in an aviation accident on August 15, 1935. Post is buried in Memorial Park Cemetery near this marker.
