Bryan County · US-70 at the eastern city limits of Bokchito

Site of Armstrong Academy, established by the Choctaw Nation in 1845 and run by Rev. R. D. Potts under the Baptist Missionary Society. Post office established November 1850 and capitol of Choctaw Nation from 1863 to 1883. Noted chiefs included Peter P. Pitchlynn, Allen Wright, and Jackson McCurtain.

Marker text incorrectly refers to site as a “Confederate Capitol” during the Civil War. Note from the marker program.
