The King's Highway
Laid out in 1719 - 100 feet wide following the route of an old Indian trail from Barnegat to Navesink. The British Army, under Generals Clinton and Cornwallis, marched along it, June 29, 1778, on their way to New York after the Battle of Monmouth.
