Russell Trading Post

In 1849 Jeremiah Russell came from Crow Wing to take charge of the Sauk Rapids post of the reorganized American Fur Company, just west of here, which had been built by Henry M. Rice the preceding year. By 1854 Russell was operating the low building of the post as a hotel. The site is marked.
