This limestone structure was built for the Detroit Free Press in 1925. Designed by Albert Kahn, it has an arched entrance flanked by carved figures symbolizing commerce and communication. Michigan´s oldest daily, the Free Press was founded in 1831, six years before Michigan became a state, as the Democratic Free Press and Michigan Intelligencer. By 1998, when the Free Press left this building, its staff had earned eight Pulitzer Prizes.
