Calvin Theological Seminary and Calvin University

Both of these schools are institutions of the Christian Reformed Church, which was founded in 1857 by Dutch immigrants whose religious roots lay in the Calvinist Reformation. The seminary began in 1876 in an upper room of a school building on Williams Street. It moved to Madison Avenue in 1892 and Franklin Street in 1917. Calvin College emerged from its preparatory-school attachment to the seminary in 1920 and became a four-year, degree-granting institution. This campus, Knollcrest Farm, was acquired in 1956. In 2019 the college became a university. These related schools emphasize liberal arts and theological education as they prepare youth for the service of God.
