Dean House

In 1911 Irving Andrew Dean (1853-1927) and Olive Crane Kendall Dean (1853-1929) hired local architectural firm Frank P. Allen and Son to design this house. The ex-terior of Mayflower Place, as it is known colloquially, was built in the Classical Revival style to honor the couple’s colonial ancestors. The contrasting interior, finished in the Arts and Crafts style, is a nod to Olive’s brother, David Wolcott Kendall, who was a pioneering designer in Arts and Crafts furniture making. He became the namesake of the Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University.
