Berkley Village Hall and Fire-Police Station

Designed by the Detroit architectural firm Pollmar and Ropes in the Colonial Revival style, the face-brick and limestone-trimmed Berkley Village Hall was dedicated on March 10, 1928. The first floor housed police and fire department facilities. The village commissioners meeting room, village offices, and the Berkley Public Library were located on the second floor. Village President Oliver C. Swords, F. Carl Pollmar, general contractor Paul O. Winkler, and others spoke at the dedication, which was interrupted mid-program by a fire engine leaving to respond to the station’s first emergency call, a false alarm. Some one thousand people attended the event.
