On this site lived from 1635 to 1642 Reverend Hugh Peter, minister of the First Church, friend of the fishing industry, patron of shipbuilding and overseer of Harvard College. Later a chaplain and adviser to Oliver Cromwell, he was executed by order of Charles II.
