Seminole War Path

Randolph County · US 82 (GA 50) about 3 miles northwest of junction with GA 266.

This highway follows a trail blazed in 1818 through Creek Indian country from Fort Perry on the old Federal road to Fort Gaines on the Chattahoochee River by the Volunteer Mounted Gunmen of West Tennessee. These pioneer cavalrymen were from two regiments mustered at Fayetteville, Tenn., by order of Major General Andrew Jackson, afterwards President of the United States. From Fort Gaines they marched to join Gen. Jackson´s forces in engagements below Fort Scott at Ecofinah, or Natural Bridge, Fowl Town and Bow Legs Town on the Suwanee River.
