Green Bone Creek

Green Bone Creek is a landmark of Civil War military operations during the Atlanta Campaign in the summer of 1864. A small tributary of Peachtree Creek, Green Bone Creek rises near Pace’s Ferry Road and drains the valley between Arden, Dover, Howell Mill, and Moore’s Mill roads. On July 19, the US 14th Army Corps encountered opposition from Confederate forces while attempting to cross Peachtree Creek. Dilworth’s 3rd brigade, Davis’s division (US) made the first crossing at the mouth of Green Bone Creek, supported by a brigade of Baird’s division (US). US Brigadier General John Geary’s passage of Peachtree Creek depleted Confederate opposition at Howell’s Mills, where the rest of Baird’s division crossed.
