Floyds' Fairfield and Bellview Plantations

Camden County · dedicated 1953 · On U.S. 17 at Billyville Rd in Colesburg.

Charles Floyd and son John moved to Camden Co. and established rice plantations on the Satilla River about 1800. John Floyd (1769- 1839) was a noted general and hero in the War of 1812, a state legislator, U.S. Congressman and presidential elector. Outer walls of Bellview plantation home were built in the shape of an anchor, and still stand. Charles Rinaldo Floyd, son of Gen. John Floyd, filled many military positions of high trust. Was a Georgia legislator and talented artist. Burial ground for members of the family is on the plantations. Handsome U.S. monuments mark the graves of Charles, John, and Charles Rinaldo.
