Founded in 1778 by Freeborn Garrettson, the congregation of the church met in the home of Caleb Boyer. In 1842, Richard Cooper donated land on this site to build Banning Meeting House in which the congregation worshiped for approximately fourteen years. In the 1850s, the congregation split and built two churches closer to the homes of the members, Beth Berei Church in the Town of Magnolia in 1856 and Lebanon Church at Lebanon in 1858. The meeting house was abandoned and later sold. Incorporated in 1899 by The Banning Cemetery Association of North Murderkill Hundred in Kent County, the cemetery has been maintained by Orchard Church of Magnolia since 1960.
