Casa de López

Built by Juan Francisco López, one of San Diego's early Spanish settlers, the Casa Larga, or Long House, was among the first substantial houses built in the Pueblo of San Diego, about 1835. In 1846 it was the home of Juan Matias Moreno, secretary to Pío Pico, California's last Mexican governor.

1971 register text, presented as a historical document. It uses the period's terms for Native people; the state's landmark listings still carry most of this wording, and the California Office of Historic Preservation maintains the program's current texts.
