Alvarado Adobe

Site of adobe house, grape arbor, and gardens built in 1842 by Jesús María Castro for his mother, Doña Gabriela Berryessa de Castro, widow of Francisco María Castro, grantee, 1823, of Rancho (Cuchiyunes) San Pablo. Doña Gabriela died in 1851, deeding the adobe to her daughter, Martina Castro de Alvarado, whose husband, Juan Bautista Alvarado, was Governor from 1836 to 1842.

1971 register text, presented as a historical document. It uses the period's terms for Native people; the state's landmark listings still carry most of this wording, and the California Office of Historic Preservation maintains the program's current texts.
