Vallejo Flour Mill

This is the site of the flour mill built in 1853 by José de Jesús Vallejo, brother of General M. G. Vallejo, on his Rancho Arroyo de la Alameda. Niles was once called "Vallejo Mills." Stone aqueduct carrying water for mill parallels Niles Canyon Road.

1971 register text, presented as a historical document. It uses the period's terms for Native people; the state's landmark listings still carry most of this wording, and the California Office of Historic Preservation maintains the program's current texts.
