Indian Wells
Indian waterhole on Joseph R. Walker trail of 1843 where Manly-Jayhawker parties of 1849 found their first water after five days' travel from Argus Range. During 1860's was site of stage and freight station from Los Angeles to Coso and Cerro Gordo Mines.
1971 register text, presented as a historical document. It uses the period's terms for Native people; the state's landmark listings still carry most of this wording, and the California Office of Historic Preservation maintains the program's current texts.
