The Ortega-Vigare Adobe

Los Angeles County · 616 South Ramona Street, San Gabriel · location approximate

Erected during mission days, 1792-1805, second oldest adobe in this region. Originally L shaped, it is now only half original size. In 1859, became property of Don Jean Vigare. In early 1860's became San Gabriel's first bakery and was separated from mission's lime orchard by high cactus wall.

1971 register text, presented as a historical document. It uses the period's terms for Native people; the state's landmark listings still carry most of this wording, and the California Office of Historic Preservation maintains the program's current texts.
