Site of Santa Clara Mission

The third and last site was chosen where the Santa Clara Mission church of the University of Santa Clara now stands, a site called by the Indians Gerguensun, "Valley of the Oaks." The construction of the third mission began in 1818 and dedicated August 11, 1822. In 1851 Santa Clara College was established in the old mission buildings.
