Southern's Stage Station

This is the site of the famous Southern Hotel and Stage Station built by Simeon Fisher Southern. The original building was a log cabin built in 1859. During a half-century many noted people who made early California history were entertained in this hotel.

1971 register text, presented as a historical document. It uses the period's terms for Native people; the state's landmark listings still carry most of this wording, and the California Office of Historic Preservation maintains the program's current texts.
