In 1855, largest town in eastern Yuba County and at height of its prosperity contained a church, theater, stores, hotels, and saloons, Old Wells Fargo office and Stewart Bros. store restored, 1928, and dedicated to pioneer men and women of Timbuctoo.

1971 register text, presented as a historical document. It uses the period's terms for Native people; the state's landmark listings still carry most of this wording, and the California Office of Historic Preservation maintains the program's current texts.
