Robinson's Ferry

Calaveras County · 7.5 miles south of Angels Camp · location approximate

In 1848 John W. Robinson and Stephen Mead established ferry transport for freight, animals, and persons across river. In 1856, Harvey Wood purchased interest and later acquired property which was maintained by Wood family until 1911. Charges were 50 cents for each passenger, horse, jenny or other animal.

1971 register text, presented as a historical document. It uses the period's terms for Native people; the state's landmark listings still carry most of this wording, and the California Office of Historic Preservation maintains the program's current texts.
