Douglas Flat

Douglas Flat was a roaring mining camp of the early fifties. In 1857 the Harper Claims and Lone Star Claims produced $130,000. The so-called Central Hill Channel, an ancient river deposit from which vast quantities of gold have been taken, is located here.

1971 register text, presented as a historical document. It uses the period's terms for Native people; the state's landmark listings still carry most of this wording, and the California Office of Historic Preservation maintains the program's current texts.
