Red Hill

Orange County · 3 miles northeast of Tustin · location approximate

In early descriptions it was known as Cerrito de las Ranas, meaning the Hill of the Frogs. In the 1890's this hill became the scene of mining excitement. Its composition, very red in color, had caused it to be named by early American settlers as Red Hill.

1971 register text, presented as a historical document. It uses the period's terms for Native people; the state's landmark listings still carry most of this wording, and the California Office of Historic Preservation maintains the program's current texts.
