Bonner Grade

First road from Cedarville to Alturas followed the course of the present highway over Warner Mountains from Surprise Valley. John H. Bonner, in 1869, was the one who was largely instrumental in securing the construction of the road over Bonner Grade, which was named in his honor.

1971 register text, presented as a historical document. It uses the period's terms for Native people; the state's landmark listings still carry most of this wording, and the California Office of Historic Preservation maintains the program's current texts.
