Dersch Homestead

George and Marie Dersch emigrated from Bavaria, Germany, via Panama to Whiskeytown, Shasta County, in 1853. Ten miles east of Anderson was Baker's Place, a tent stopping place for emigrants coming via the Lassen Trail and settled by Baker in 1850. In the winter of 1860-61 Mr. and Mrs. George Dersch moved to Baker's Place and took up 160 acres of land. The Dersch homestead, being on the main traveled road between eastern Shasta and Lassen Counties, became widely known as a stopping place.
