Summary description and reason for designation
The following provides a general description of the Scheduled Ancient Monument.
The monument comprises a standing stone, which measures 1.65m tall, 1.3m wide and 0.75m deep. It is oriented NW-SE and leans slightly to the W. It is earthfast and has a ragged profile rising to a sharply pointed top.
The standing stone is thought to be of religious or ceremonial significance and to date to the Bronze Age (c. 2300 BC - 800 BC). This example is an important local landmark and one of a number in the local area. The monument is likely to retain significant archaeological deposits and enhance our knowledge of prehistoric ritual practices.
The area to be scheduled comprises the remains described and an area around them within which related evidence may be expected to survive. It is circular and measures 6m in diameter.
