Cadw's description

The following provides a general description of the Scheduled Ancient Monument.

The monument comprises the remains of a burial cairn, with a kerb of edge-set stones defining the edge, which probably dates to the Bronze Age (c.2300 BC - 800 BC). The cairn is circular in plan and has a central rectangular burial cist lined by stone slabs. The cairn is accompanied by two simple round barrows, possibly satellite cairns, both measuring 3m in diameter and 0.3m high. There are no signs that these have ever been disturbed. Other features have also been recorded within the scheduled area, including a low wall or bank.

The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of prehistoric burial and ritual practices. The monument is an important relic of a prehistoric funerary and ritual landscape and retains significant archaeological potential, with a strong probability of the presence of both structural evidence and intact burial or ritual deposits. Kerb cairns may be part of a larger cluster of monuments and their importance can further enhanced by their group value.

The scheduled area comprises the remains described and areas around them within which related evidence may be expected to survive. It is a square and measures 70m x 70m.
