Summary description and reason for designation
The following provides a general description of the Scheduled Ancient Monument.
The monument consists of two platform houses, a levelled area of ground on which a house is built. The main platform, which is dug into the natural slope supports the foundations of a stone building measuring 6m x 4m. The building comprised two rooms, with a porch entrance at the northern end. The second platform lies adjacent to the above and is smaller in size. Both lie within an earth and rubble banked enclosure measuring 40m x 43m with a single entrance. The original track to the settlement appears to lead in to the south-west.
The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of settlement organisation. It retains significant archaeological potential, with a strong probability of the presence of associated archaeological features and deposits. The structure itself may be expected to contain archaeological information concerning chronology and building techniques. a platform house may be part of a larger cluster of monuments and their importance can further enhanced by their group value.
The scheduled area comprises the remains described and areas around them within which related evidence may be expected to survive. It is square with sides measuring 80m long.
