Cadw's description

The monument consists of a moat, a wide ditch surrounding a building, usually filled with water, dating to the medieval or post-medieval period. The monument consists of a rectangular platform 32.5m x 18m enclosed by a moat 8-12m wide, except in the north-west where it is expanded into a pond 28m x 30m. In the north-east there is a 8m wide counterscarp or dam.

The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of medieval or post-medieval defensive organisation. It retains significant archaeological potential, with a strong probability of the presence of associated archaeological features and deposits. The moat itself may be expected to contain archaeological information concerning chronology and building techniques, together with a strong probability of environmental evidence.

The scheduled area comprises the remains described and areas around them within which related evidence may be expected to survive.
