Cadw's description

The following provides a general description of the Scheduled Ancient Monument.

The monument consists of the remains of a small deserted rural settlement, probably dating to the medieval period. It comprises the stone foundations of two small long huts, probably of contemporary date, along with a number of associated agricultural structures, including a likely ancillary building or shelter and a large enclosure. The two dwellings are well preserved and one displays evidence for a central hearth.

The monument has archaeological importance because of the variety of features present, their state of preservation and the lack of disturbance. It is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of medieval settlement organisation. It retains significant archaeological potential, with a strong probability of the presence of associated archaeological features and deposits. A deserted rural settlement may be part of a larger cluster of monuments and their importance can be further enhanced by their group value.

The scheduled area comprises the remains described and areas around them within which related evidence may be expected to survive.
