Summary description and reason for designation
The following provides a general description of the Scheduled Monument.
The monument comprises the unusually well-preserved and impressively complete remains of two stone-built circular huts, one of which is set within a well preserved and prominent octagonal enclosure. The site stands on gentle to moderate, east-facing slopes above the Afon Gwyrfai and probably dates to the late prehistoric Iron Age or Romano-British period (c. 800 BC - AD 400).
The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of prehistoric settlement practices. It displays diverse structural features and is particularly interesting because of the close association of the two huts and the presence of a visible field system around them. The monument is an important relic of the prehistoric landscape and retains significant archaeological potential. There is a strong probability of the presence of environmental and structural evidence, including preserved internal and external floor levels.
The scheduled area comprises the remains described and areas around them within which related evidence may be expected to survive.
