Summary description and reason for designation
The following provides a general description of the Scheduled Ancient Monument.
The monument comprises the well preserved remains of an isolated hut circle that probably dates to the Iron Age or Romano-British period (c. 800 BC - AD 400). It lies on relatively level, east-facing ground about 200m east of the summit of the Great Orme and comprises a low, circular, turf-covered bank with some inner facing stones and an entrance on the south-east.
The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of later prehistoric domestic construction practices. The monument's interior appears undisturbed ensuring significant archaeological potential; there is a strong probability that structural evidence and internal and external floor surfaces have survived. The importance of this site is further enhanced by the locational association with the early mining complex identified nearby. The possibility that the domestic and industrial activities may be associated is of great significance.
The scheduled area comprises the remains described and areas around them within which related evidence may be expected to survive.
