Summary description and reason for designation
The following provides a general description of the Scheduled Ancient Monument.
The monument consists of the remains of a group of 15 pillow mound, a pillow-shaped, flat topped rectangular mound often surrounded by a shallow ditch used to farm rabbits. The mounds have been constructed on a steep hillside on Pen Bwlch Glasgwm. They are rectangular in shape with varying dimensions, the smallest being about 2.5m by 4m and the largest about 3m by 6m. They average approximately 0.6m in height.
The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of agricultural techniques. It retains significant archaeological potential, with a strong probability of the presence of associated archaeological features and deposits.
The scheduled area comprises the remains described and areas around them within which related evidence may be expected to survive.
