Location

Situated at S end of cottage row, on the E side of the A487 at Chancery.

History

Mid C19 former pair of Gothic cottages in one of 2 rows facing each other across the main road, the rows originally of 2 gable ended cottages flanking two double-fronted cottages on W and flanking one cottage on E. Possibly built for the Ffosrhydgaled estate, not marked on 1845 Tithe map.

Exterior

House, formerly 2, in terrace of 4, the end ones gable-ended, the centre ones double fronted, with pointed windows, facing a matching terrace opposite. Whitewashed rubble with slate roofs and Gothic detail. Cottage to left, attached to Glyn Wern, is double-fronted with small-paned lights with severely-pointed Gothic heads, interlacing glazing bars, slate sills and plain reveals each side of boarded door with narrow overlight with narrow side margins. Stone voussoirs are visible beneath whitewash. Large square ridge stack between cottages in coursed rubble with projected coping to head. Heightened in red brick in the form of a circular stack with raised coping and tapered pot. Projected gable-fronted cottage to right has wavy bargeboard, similar Gothic window to left with interlacing glazing bars to small-paned light, painted stone sill and whitewashed reveals. To right is horned timber sash with side margins and stone sill with rendered reveals and cambered head, formerly a door. Cast iron rainwater goods. Right end wall is gabled with wavy bargeboard. Tripartite sash window set towards rear with stone sill. Cobbled paving to roadside.
