Cadw's description
Location
Located on the driveway leading to the house.
History
Late C17 gate piers, contemporary with a rebuilding of the house after it was burnt down by Cromwell's men. They may be contemporary with the service building at Mathafarn, but the house itself was rebuilt again later.
Exterior
A pair of gate piers of coursed ashlar with 2 orders of mouldings to each angle. Moulded entablatures, slightly rusticated, surmounted by large ball finials on shouldered pyramidal bases.
Reason for designation
Listed as a fine pair of C17 classical-style gate piers, possibly the only survival for this phase at Mathafarn. Group value with house and service building.
