Location

Situated some 400m down lane running W from Heol Rhos at Croesffordd around back of Banc y Garth.

History

Blaenos estate small farmhouse, probably built in 1860s as similar to Croesffordd nearby which is dated 1867. Not marked on first edition OS map of 1820s. In the picturesque cottage style favoured for estate building at the time. The Blaenos estate was owned by the Jones banking family in the C19.

Exterior

Small farmhouse, rubble stone with slate deep-eaved roof and end chimneys, the right one rendered, the left one rebuilt in red brick. One and a half storeys, double-fronted with asymmetrical spacing, the door closer to right window. Casement-pair windows with stone voussoirs, keystones, and stone sills, one each side to ground floor with stone hoodmoulds, one each side above breaking eaves in small stone gables with fretted bargeboards. Broad front doorway with stone voussoirs and keystones, plank door with cover strips. Porch with similar bargeboards to gable but C20 brick sides. Ground floor right window has incised finely-written 'Edwd Jones Esqr' and bird beneath, on one pane.

Interior

Centre passage plan with kitchen to left and parlour to right. Tiled hall and kitchen floors, boarded hall dado. Kitchen has enclosed stairs on back wall and fireplace with earlier C20 range. Joisted ceiling. Board doors.

Reason for designation

Included as a mid Victorian small estate farmhouse with characteristic picturesque detail.
