Cadw's description
Location
Set back, within private grounds, between the A5025 and the B5109 SW of Pentraeth. The icehouse is said to lie to N of the house at Plas Gwyn.
History
The icehouse was not inspected at the time of the survey, but is described in the Register of Parks and Gardens, 1998, and appears to be of late C18 or early C19 design.
Exterior
Sunk into a ridge to N of the house, the icehouse has a brick tunnel entrance and its arched roof is covered with soil. There is a small rectangular forecourt, with 3 or 4 slate steps down to the entrance.
Interior
The passage originally had 3 doors and the chamber is ovoid in plan.
Reason for designation
Included as a well-preserved late C18 or early C19 icehouse which forms an integral part of the ancillary buildings that are grouped around the estate centre at Plas Gwyn.
