Location

On the E side of Castle Square facing W to overlook the harbour.

History

Early C19 house in terraced row of three, later than Nos 1 and 2 as not shown in 1817 view of Tenby Harbour. Much modernised in late C20 in conversion to flats.

Exterior

House, white-painted stucco with slate close-eaved roof continuous with that of No 2. Broad facade of 3 storeys, 3-window range. Sash windows and full-height canted timber bay with cornices to left. Bay has 4-16-4-pane sashes, centre has 8-pane sash over door and 12-pane to upper floor, right has 12-pane sash each floor. All sashes horned, replaced in late C20. Five slate steps up to central doorway with pedimented wood doorcase renewed since 1977, similar to original which had fluted pilasters and pediment. Fanlight with radiating bars, C20 door replacing one with 2 long panels like that on No 2.
Low front railings formerly listed with the house have been replaced in late C20.
Right end wall has loft light with brick sill, C20 12-pane second floor sash, and ground floor lean-to with half-glazed door to flat No 1 and 16-pane window.
Outside steps up to rear which is of 2 storeys due to slope, first floor C20 12-pane sash to right and projecting hipped stair wing to left. Wing has 4-pane window over half-glazed door with 9-pane overlight. Added piece to right side of wing with dormer and door in side wall.
Curving rubble stone retaining wall to left of front, some 30m length has doorway with red brick head adjoining house giving access to flats.
