Location

On the north side of the road towards the eastern end of Whitebrook valley and about 200m east of the Church of the Holy Trinity.

History

Wye Valley Mill was originally called Bridget Mill. This house was the mill owner's house and its large size suggests a prosperous concern at the time of building in c1800. There remains no evidence of steam power or paper making machinery having been installed in the adjacent mill buildings, which thus seem to have been hand mills.

Exterior

A tall rendered house, presumably over local rubble stone, with a concrete tile roof. It has a main three storey block with a two storey service wing projecting at the back. The entrance elevation has three bays with a central plain door flanked on the left by a 6 over 6 pane sash in an elliptical head and on the right by a mid C20 steel framed French casement with side windows. The first floor has three 6 over 6 sashes and the second floor has three 3 over 6 sashes. Plain low pitch roof with tall end stacks. The rear wing has mostly C20 features. Rear elevation not seen.
Near the house are the remains of the paper mill, squared rubble with brick framed openings.

Included as a house dating from c1800 having an historical connection with the Whitebrook valley paper industry.
