The City of Vienna's record

abgerissen. Diesem irren Rassenwahn fielen bis 1945 über 65.000
österreichische Juden und Jüdinnen zum Opfer.

Here once stood a synagogue built in 1895/96 by Jakob Gartner,
with its domed structure a distinct feature of the cityscape.
The temple erected by Tempelverein Favoriten was destroyed in
the night from 9 to 10 November 1938 during a pogrom by the NS
regime against the Jewish population - euphemistically called
"The Night of Broken Glass" - and was shortly afterwards demo
lished. Until 1945 more than 65,000 Austrian Jews fell victim to
this racial fanaticism.

Here once stood a synagogue built in 1895/96 by Jakob Gartner,
a central domed building that shaped the cityscape. The house of worship erected by the Tempelverein Favoriten was devastated in the night of 9 to 10 November 1938 in the course of a pogrom initiated by the NS regime against the Jewish population – euphemistically termed »Reichskristallnacht« – and soon completely demolished. Until 1945 more than 65,000 Austrian Jews fell victim to this mad racial obsession.
