Aan het westelijk uiteinde van de voormalige Buitenhaven gedeelte van de stervormige schans met gracht en omdijking. Behorend tot de naar ontwerp en onder leiding van Menno van Coehoorn in 1698-1712 aangelegde vestingwerken. Deze schans is aangelegd op de plaats van een oudere fortificatie. Aan de noordzijde deels bewaarde kademuur, circa 80 meter lang, waarin nog de oude doorgang/dijkopening naar de kade langs de voormalige buitenhaven. Baksteen: rood-bruin 21 a 22 x 10 a 11 x 4 a 4,2 centimeter. In de oude doorgang, ter weerszijde, verticaal ingemetselde in hardsteen uitgevoerde groeven, 16 centimeter breed en 10 centimeter diep, voor het aanbrengen van stormvloedschotten. Latere dijkdeur (1956) met ouder hangwerk. Aan de west- en zuidzijde grotendeels bewaarde omdijking van de schans met waterpartij op de plaats van de voormalige schansgracht. Description
At the western end of the former Outer Harbour part of the star-shaped sconce with moat and embankment. Belonging to the fortification works laid out to the design and under the direction of Menno van Coehoorn in 1698-1712. This sconce was laid out on the site of an older fortification. On the north side a partly preserved quay wall, approximately 80 metres long, in which the old passage/dyke opening to the quay along the former outer harbour is still present. Brick: red-brown 21 to 22 x 10 to 11 x 4 to 4.2 centimetres. In the old passage, on either side, grooves executed in ashlar and bedded vertically, 16 centimetres wide and 10 centimetres deep, for the installation of storm surge gates. Later dyke door (1956) with older hardware. On the west and south side a largely preserved embankment of the sconce with water feature on the site of the former sconce moat.
