Omschrijving
Het Markiezenhof en de O.L.Vrouwekapel. Laatgotisch paleis, tot 1801 in het bezit van de in 1533 tot markies verheven heren van Bergen, sinds 1818 kazerne, gerestaureerd 1901, 1913 en 1926 en bestemd tot stedelijk museum, bibliotheek en muziekschool. Om twee binnenplaatsen gegroepeerd samenstel van gebouwen met groot achterplein, met gebruikmaking van enkele oudere gedeelten gebouwd tussen 1485 en 1532, vanaf 1495 onder leiding van Anthonis Keldermans met medewerking van zijn zoon Rombout. Gelijkvloers zijn de gevels voor een gedeelte geheel van Gobertangersteen, voor het overige baksteen met speklagen en natuursteen voor geveltoppen, ramen en verdere onderdelen. In de westgevel de Tudorboog van de toegangspoort. Aan de zuidelijke binnenplaats tegen de lage westelijke en de hoge zuidelijke vleugel een galerij van geprofileerde Tudorbogen op zuilen; rechthoekige traptorens in de oostelijke hoeken. Aan de buitenzijde van de noordgevel een arkel. Aan de oostzijde een plm 1700 gewijzigde gevel: het Cabinet de la Tour d'Auvergne in Frans klassicistische stijl. Op het grote achterplein de bakkerij, de brouwerij en andere dienstgebouwen, alle in dezelfde trant gedetailleerd als de hoofdvleugels. Aan de noordzijde, langs de Hofstraat, wordt dit plein afgesloten door een oude, vroeg 16e eeuwse muur. Alle ramen van de westelijke voorgevel met gesmeedijzeren traliewerk uit de bouwtijd. Description
The Markiezenhof and the O.L.Vrouwekapel. Late Gothic palace, in possession until 1801 of the lords of Bergen, elevated to marquis in 1533, barracks since 1818, restored in 1901, 1913 and 1926 and intended as a municipal museum, library and music school. A complex of buildings grouped around two courtyards with a large rear courtyard, making use of some older sections built between 1485 and 1532, from 1495 under the direction of Anthonis Keldermans with the assistance of his son Rombout. On the ground floor the facades are for a part entirely of Gobertange stone, for the rest brick with speckled courses and natural stone for gable tops, windows and other components. On one side of the northern courtyard a gallery with Tudor arches on slender columns. In the northwestern corner the base of an octagonal tower stair whose upper structure was demolished in 1780. In the west facade the Tudor arch of the access gate. On the southern courtyard against the low western and the high southern wing a gallery of profiled Tudor arches on columns; rectangular tower stairs in the eastern corners. On the outside of the north facade an arch. On the east side a facade modified circa 1700: the Cabinet de la Tour d'Auvergne in French classical style. On the large rear courtyard the bakery, the brewery and other service buildings, all detailed in the same manner as the main wings. On the north side, along the Hofstraat, this courtyard is closed off by an old, early 16th century wall. All windows of the western front facade with wrought-iron grilles from the building period. Interior: cellars with barrel and cross vaults, some rooms likewise vaulted.
