Omschrijving

Description
Description component 2, Historic garden and park layout
Between the house and the Harderwijkerweg lies, on the south side a landscape park, on the north side of the house lie an avenue system and the utility grounds. Who designed the landscape park is not known. An attribution on the municipal monuments list to J.D. and L.P. Zocher could not be confirmed anywhere.
The only indication of a layout in the early 19th century is the mention from 1821 of a 'winding wood' on the small country estate De Haring, which would later become part of the country estate Groeneveld. On the basis of historical cartographic material it can be established that around 1850 in the meadow in front of the house Groeneveld there lies a heart-shaped pond. The view towards the road is still open. The first map on which a landscape layout appears dates from 1872. On this the house is indicated on an elevation with a view over the serpentine pond between two tree groups through to the road. The house is accessible from the road via two curved driveways. The southern part of the park consists of a lawn with tree groups and a serpentine pond. Behind the house a number of avenues run in a northerly direction, which in part follow the field pattern and in part wind sinuously between them. To the north of the house lies a clearly delineated kitchen garden. According to a cadastral map from 1918 and more clearly on the topographic map of 1932 the situation appears to have changed. On the south side the serpentine pond is extended, the path pattern is intensified: a walk around the pond has been created. The spacious view from the house onto the road is blocked off with tree groups and shrubbery. From the house runs a walk via a bridge over the pond. This situation, with the exception of the bridge over the pond, still exists. On the north side in 1932 not much has changed compared to the previous situation. The straight avenues of the old field pattern are still present. The avenue leading to the house is planted with oaks. The kitchen garden behind the gardener's dwelling is specifically mentioned on the cadastral map.
The present situation is as follows. Via two curved driveways, one on the east and one on the west side, marked by stone walls with entrance gates one reaches the main building. This lies on an elevation from which it overlooks the lawn to the pond and the bordering planting behind it in a southerly direction. Around the pond lies a winding path pattern with alternately dense and open sections with views of the house and/or pond. Between the driveways and the pond area a dense planting, as it were a park wood, has been created, whereby the pond area and the house are deliberately screened from view. Behind the house, on the north side, lies an old field layout within which the utility grounds lay as kitchen garden and orchard that belong to the country estate. An avenue of oaks leads straight to the house. This forms the eastern boundary. In the northern part of the garden a kitchen garden (see for this component 4) separated by a wall and an orchard have been laid out. In part of the old kitchen garden a swimming pool now lies. The swimming pool falls outside the protection. On the east side of the orchard lies a low bank planted with trees. At the end of the orchard lies a masonry water pump.
Valuation
The garden and park layout belonging to the country estate Groeneveld is of general importance:
- because of its age
- because of the combination of elements of utility and ornament
- because of the well-preserved mid-19th-century landscape park to the south of the house
- because of the recognisably preserved structure of the kitchen garden with wall and orchard with water pump.
