Inleiding
Op de zuidelijke oever van de Kromme Rijn ten zuidwesten van Oud-Amelisweerd een markant gelegen boerderij-ensemble "De Knapschinkel" bestaande uit een (voormalige) dwarshuisboerderij (woongedeelte en bedrijfsgedeelte) en veestal. De dwarshuisboerderij werd omstreeks 1678 herbouwd op de plaats van een oudere boerderij die in 1672 door de Fransen was verwoest. Het bedrijfsgedeelte van de boerderij werd in 1856 vernieuwd. Het westelijke gedeelte van het bedrijfsgedeelte is aan het einde van de 20ste eeuw gesloopt waardoor een patio is ontstaan tussen woon- en bedrijfsgedeelte.
N.B. Twee geheel vrijstaande opstallen op het erf (schuur/garage), een manege, een paddock en een kuilplaat vertegenwoordigen geen monumentwaarden.
Omschrijving
Het rood bakstenen BEDRIJFSGEDEELTE van de voormalige DWARSHUISBOERDERIJ staat haaks op het voorhuis en is voorzien van een rietgedekt zadeldak met wolfeind. Het bedrijfsgedeelte bestaat uit één bouwlaag en een zolder en is aan drie gevels voorzien van stalvensters; de westgevel dateert van het eind van de 20ste eeuw. Aan de oostgevel een getoogde dubbele inrijdeur geflankeerd door ronde stalvensters met roedenverdeling en uiterst links en rechts eenvoudige staldeuren; ter hoogte van de kap een hooiluik geflankeerd door twee ronde stalvensters met roedenverdeling. Het BEDRIJFSGEDEELTE van de DWARSHUISBOERDERIJ, deeluitmakend van een ensemble van dwarshuisboerderij met veestal, behorende tot de buitenplaats Oud Amelisweerd is van algemeen belang: - vanwege de ouderdom; - vanwege de traditioneel-ambachtelijke vormgeving; - vanwege de ornamentele waarde; - vanwege de historische functioneel-ruimtelijke relatie met het hoofdgebouw; - vanwege de fraaie ligging op de zuidelijke oever van de Kromme Rijn, tegen een achtergrond van hoog opgaand geboomte temidden van weilanden met boomgroepen.

Introduction
On the southern bank of the Kromme Rijn south-west of Oud-Amelisweerd a prominently situated farmhouse ensemble "De Knapschinkel" consisting of a (former) transverse-house farmhouse (residential section and business section) and livestock shed. The transverse-house farmhouse was rebuilt around 1678 in the place of an older farmhouse that was destroyed by the French in 1672. The business section of the farmhouse was renewed in 1856. The western part of the business section was demolished at the end of the 20th century, creating a patio between residential and business sections.
N.B. Two completely detached outbuildings on the site (shed/garage), a riding school, a paddock and a silage clamp represent no monumental values.
Description
The red brick BUSINESS SECTION of the former TRANSVERSE-HOUSE FARMHOUSE stands at right angles to the front house and is provided with a thatch-covered gabled roof with half-hipped end. The business section consists of one storey and an attic and is fitted at three gables with stable windows; the west gable dates from the end of the 20th century. At the east gable an arched double entrance door flanked by round stable windows with glazing bars and at the far left and right simple stable doors; at the height of the roof a hay door flanked by two round stable windows with glazing bars. Tie-beam trusses.

The BUSINESS SECTION of the TRANSVERSE-HOUSE FARMHOUSE, part of an ensemble of transverse-house farmhouse with livestock shed, belonging to the country estate Oud Amelisweerd is of general importance: - because of the age; - because of the traditionally-craft design; - because of the ornamental value; - because of the historical functional-spatial relationship with the main building; - because of the fine location on the southern bank of the Kromme Rijn, against a background of tall tree growth in the midst of meadows with tree clumps.
